This is my first smaller piece of work: Each frame consists of a short conversation which has been typed at a 1.0pt size in Ariel font. To view the work clearly, it is necessary to use a magnifying glass. Even then, it is still difficult to read. The conversations were mainly overheard and the struggle to overhear is visually repesented here, by the struggle to read.

These are the four sets of texts displayed for the 'body as a site' project, were the viewer would use the magnifying glass. They were originally put together in photoshop and printed at size 1.1pt in helvetica neue font.

SET ONE

Five untitled conversations.

Devotee of D.Clowes:

“Boy, am I glad to hear from you. I

often feel like you are having more

fun than I am.”

A fan of A.Tomine:

“I really want to but I don’t think it’ll

ever make it as far as Exeter. I

think a lot of things get distracted

on the way here and turn back.”

Follower of H. Peckar:

“I remember watching some

interviews with him and Cage.

Cage was all like ‘this movie was so

cool to make, I got to shoot stuff,

fly planes and blow shit up’ and

Malkovich was all like ‘I think this is

a really tender piece with a lot of

serious issues at it’s heart.”

“ I always feel stupid using the word

beautiful - I always feel like I

should spend the rest of the day

playing rugby and drinking special

brew from a shoe to compensate

- but that book just is beautiful.”

Admirer of H.Crumb:

“Yeah, I miss that book, I gave it to

Roo (remember her? I think I told

you about her) a few summers ago

and she never gave it back. What a

tool. I should really ask for it back,

it is mine afterall. I think she might

be living somewhere near here now

- weird. I remember that story

about old people swimming in

buckets. That one was cool.”

“I felt like you were missing the

second I arrived and the feeling

hasn’t really left”

A terrible public speaker:

“I feel alien talking to the other

artists here, who are ‘so inspired

by the ‘raw beauty of nature’ I did

a water colour of the loch ness

monster and a swastika shaped

building in the middle, I’m bad”

“He wore the same clothes as me, I

can understand a coordinating

outfit, but almost the same?

Is that a sincere compliment or

otherwise?

A sincere waste of time.”

A bird trapped in his throat, voice:

“Do you want me to tell you a story?

I was with Jenny at the time, she

was really depressed. So I gave

her five pounds and told her to go

buy as many cool things as she

could find with it. She didn’t come

back for ages.”
